TTS wins Stena Baltica conversion contract 09.11.2004

TTS Ships Equipment, headquartered in Gothenburg, will convert existing and install new cargo access equipment onboard the 1986-built Stena Baltica

Stena Lines’ 31,189 grt RoPax ferry Stena Baltica (ex Koningen Beatrix) is to be converted by Poland’s Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Remontowa SA, Gdansk, for Stena Line’s service between Karlskrona (Sweden) and Gdynia (Poland). The conversion follows the introduction of a new Linkspan at the Verko Terminal in Karlskrona, which includes a two-tier loading/unloading arrangement.

TTS Ships Equipment, headquartered in Gothenburg, will convert existing and install new cargo access equipment onboard the 1986-built Stena Baltica during her refit in Gdansk, which is due to take place during March next year (2005). TTS Ships Equipment is also delivering the new Weather Deck Ramp to the existing Linkspan at Karlskrona, the new operation due to begin during April 2005.

Work onboard the Stena Baltica, when she is in Gdansk will include the following:

· lengthening of the existing stern ramps (port and starboard) by 1 m each, giving a new total length of 8.6 m
· the installation of a new hydraulically-operated front bulkhead door, which is of top hinged design
· installation of a hoistable car deck/ramp between Decks 5 on both the port and starboard side
· installation of bulkhead doors between Decks 4 and 6, again on both port and starboard sides
· conversion of the existing hydraulic and electrical systems to cater for the converted and new cargo access equipment.

All the converted items of equipment and new installations are under DNV Classification rules and will also adhere to all the necessary SOLAS and international rules governing ferry operation. TTS Ships Equipment, part of Norway’s TTS Marine ASA, will also be responsible for the complete design work; all components, fabrication of the new equipment and installation of all the equipment.
